Texans Safety Eugene Wilson Fined $5k

Wouldn't you know it gave Indy a first down on what would have been a punt forcing play.
The NFL has fined Texans safety Eugene Wilson for his helmet to helmet hit on Colts Tight End Dalls Clark. The league ruled that Wilson hit “a defenseless receiver.” Maybe it’s just me, but I thought this was the NFL and you could still hit a guy. I know the league has to protect its players, but with rule changes every year, the NFL is going to be flag football pretty soon.
Now, I in no way condone what would be called a “cheap shot.” But I have seen hits much worse go unpenalized. Just depends on the referee, I guess.
Something that was pointed out to me recently was that the Houston defense leads the league in unnecessary roughness penalties so far this season. While I never like any penalty, I do like the new “nasty” attitude the defense has since the arrival of Bernard Pollard and Brian Cushing. It’s no question that they’re building something in Houston with this defense. Let’s just hope that referees and the league just let the players play.
