Cushing, Barwin Signed

August 2nd, 2009 | by Mike Kerns |

To no ones surprise, signing first round pick Brian Cushing turned out not to be an issue. Connor Barwin, either. Now we can focus entirely on training camp. Especially because it seems like not even Dunta Robinson’s mother cares about his contract complaints.

Cushing signed for 5 years, $14 Million ($10 Million guaranteed) and is expected to be the starter on the strong side. Its pretty much his job to lose. Lets hope he is an instant impact player. Being a USC fan, this guy brings it every play. He takes zero plays off. I am excited to see how he makes the jump to the pros.

Barwin was inked to a 4 year deal for about $4 Million ($2 Million guaranteed). I didnt really know much about Barwin before the Texans selected him in the 2nd round. From what I have learned about him since, he seems like he has a great work ethic and is eager to burn all the teams that passed on him in the first round.

With the success Kubiak and GM Rick Smith have had in the draft since 2006, I am inclined to believe both Cushing and Barwin will end up being steals. Props to the front office for getting these deals done in a satisfactory time frame.
